Australian Open Tennis 2020 – Predictions

Australia’s very own Grand Slam tennis tournament kicks-off the 2020 season, and the hearts-and-minds of pro tennis aficionados and casual observers have their own predictions for the tournament. Punters look to take advantage of the Australian Open betting odds and manipulate upset betting wins along the way too.

Let’s analyse some of the best chances for the Aussie Open, on both the Men’s-and-Women’s sides, beginning with our very own Ash Barty.

Women’s Singles – Australian Open 2020 Predictions

Aussie Favourite – Ash Barty – The Aussie World Number 1 has begun 2020 in sublime touch, winning the lead-up event in Adelaide for her first tournament win on home soil. Barty has the all-court game to succeed at Melbourne Park, and is good betting value at $8.00 to win her second grand slam.

Biggest Danger – Serena Williams – The veteran American is looking as powerful-as-ever and winning the warm-up in Auckland has seen the bookies install her as $4.00 favourite to win her 8th Australian Open title.

Looming large – Karolina Pliskova – Pliskova has shown particularly strong form in Australia in recent years, and won the Brisbane International lead-in. Her hunger to win a maiden Grand Slam should not be underestimated. The bookies have the Czech champ at $9.00.

Prediction – Pliskova to break Aussie hearts and defeat Barty in 3 sets.

Men’s Singles – Australian Open 2020 Predictions

Fan Favourite – Roger Federer – The Swiss master keeps on churning-out victories and looking well-mannered and unflustered in doing it. It’s no wonder that the Aussie fans take him to their hearts and bet on him in large numbers at $7.00 to win it again.

Physical threat – Rafael Nadal – It has been 11 years since Rafa won his only Australian Open title, however, the draw looks good for the Spaniard and the courts are slower this year at Melbourne Park, resembling his favourite Roland Garros surface. Nadal is at $5.50 to win.

Aussie Open expert – Novak Djokovic – Reigning champion, and short-priced $2.20 favourite, Djokovic loves Melbourne and clinched a record 7th Australian Open last January.

Novak defeated Nadal in straight sets in 2019 to move clear of Federer as the all-time Australian record titleholder in Australia, and defeated Rafa again in the ATP Cup final in January on the way to victory for Serbia in the inaugural tournament.

Best of the Rest – Daniil Medvedev – Outside of the ‘Big 3’ that usually dominate, young Russian Daniil Medvedev has the game to go toe-to-toe with anyone and fears nobody. Superb betting value at $8.50 to lift the trophy. It might not be just yet, however, Medvedev will one day win plenty of Grand Slam titles.

Prediction – Djokovic to outlast Medvedev to win in Melbourne.
